IIMC Celebrates 56th Convocation Ceremony; Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Envisions Future as World-Class Media University

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) held its 56th Convocation Ceremony today at the Mahatma Gandhi Manch, IIMC, New Delhi, with Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony celebrated the academic achievements of the 2023-24 batch, where 478 students from IIMC New Delhi and its five regional campuses—Dhenkanal, Aizawl, Amravati, Kottayam, and Jammu—received their Post Graduate Diploma certificates. In addition, 36 outstanding students were awarded medals and cash prizes for their academic excellence.

IIMC to Emerge as a World-Class Media University

In his address, Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined the future vision for IIMC, stating that the institute would be developed into a world-class media university. He highlighted the importance of a dynamic curriculum and strong collaborations with the media industry to cater to the rapidly changing communication landscape. “The media world is constantly evolving, and it is imperative to absorb and adapt to these changes to stay ahead,” he said, emphasizing the significance of adaptability in the media industry.

Vaishnaw also encouraged the graduates to embrace challenges with dedication and perseverance, reinforcing that their contributions should always place the nation first. “Your work should aim to help the country, and everything else will follow,” he added, urging the students to carry the same energy and focus that led them to this milestone as they embark on their careers.

Modernization and Expansion of Curriculum

In her address, Dr. Anupama Bhatnagar, Vice Chancellor of IIMC, reiterated the institute’s commitment to keeping pace with modern advancements and the evolving needs of the mass communication sector. She emphasized the role IIMC plays in training officers of the Indian Information Service (IIS) and noted that the institute had adapted its curriculum to meet the demands of contemporary media and communication challenges.

Dr. Bhatnagar highlighted IIMC’s expanding role in the security sector, having organized specialized mass communication courses for the Armed Forces, State Police Departments, Coast Guard, and other security agencies, including the CISF and Assam Rifles. This reflects IIMC’s dedication to contributing to the nation’s security through specialized training programs.

Industry Connect and Placement Initiatives

Dr. Bhatnagar also spoke about the IIMC Placement Cell, which successfully organized an Industry Connect Event last December. This event provided students with a valuable platform to interact with esteemed industry leaders across various media sectors, allowing them to gain insights and guidance in pursuing successful careers.

A Strong Future for IIMC Graduates

The ceremony marked a significant occasion for the graduates and their families, with many expressing their excitement about starting their professional journey in the fast-evolving world of mass communication. With the new focus on modernized training, industry partnerships, and expanded opportunities in specialized fields, the future looks bright for IIMC alumni.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Nimish Rustagi, Additional Director General of IIMC, along with faculty, staff, and other distinguished guests. The successful conclusion of the 56th Convocation not only celebrated the academic achievements of the students but also set the stage for IIMC’s continued growth and excellence in mass communication education.
