Hockey Association of Odisha Triumphs at 2nd Hockey India Junior East Zone Championship 2024

Bhubaneswar: The Hockey Association of Odisha achieved remarkable success as the men’s team emerged as champions of the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Women East Zone Championship 2024. Additionally, the women’s team secured third place in a thrilling encounter against Hockey Manipur.

In the men’s final, the Hockey Association of Odisha showcased their dominance throughout the match. Aryan Xess broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a field goal, followed by Deonath Nanwar doubling Odisha’s lead in the 27th minute. Despite Jharkhand’s attempts to score, Odisha’s defense remained resolute, ensuring their victory and championship title.

The women’s team faced a nail-biting battle for third place against Manipur Hockey. The match ended goalless in regulation time, leading to a tense shootout. With both teams converting two penalties each, the shootout progressed to sudden death. Captain Drupati Naik and Supriya found the back of the net, securing a 4-3 victory for the Hockey Association of Odisha in the shootouts.

“We are thrilled with the performances of both our men’s and women’s teams at the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Women East Zone Championship 2024. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, and support staff,” said Shri Dilip Tirkey, President of the Hockey Association of Odisha.

Lakshmi Narayana Pitti, the Head Coach for the men’s team, expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “We are very proud of the result as we have been working very hard in the build-up to this competition. We are grateful to the HPCO and the Government of Odisha for all their support.”
