Historic Agreement Brings Peace and Development to Tripura

New  Delhi: In a landmark event in New Delhi, a Memorandum of Settlement was signed today between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). The agreement, witnessed by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, marks a significant step towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and prosperous Northeast India.

The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Government of Tripura.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the agreement as a milestone for both Tripura and the nation. “Today is a historic day for Tripura and our country. The commitment of NLFT and ATTF to ending a 35-year-long conflict aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Modi, who has worked tirelessly to bridge distances and differences across our nation,” said Shah.

The agreement is the 12th of its kind for the Northeast and the third specific to Tripura, reflecting the Modi government’s ongoing efforts to bring insurgents into the mainstream. Over 328 armed cadres from NLFT and ATTF are expected to lay down their arms and reintegrate into society under the terms of the settlement. This initiative is projected to significantly contribute to the development of Tripura and India’s overall progress.

Shah emphasized that the agreement aligns with the concepts of ‘Ashtalakshmi’ and ‘Purvodaya,’ aiming to foster comprehensive development in the region. He highlighted that the government has already approved a special package of Rs 250 crore for the tribal population of Tripura, reinforcing the commitment to the region’s development.

The Home Minister also praised the government’s record in implementing agreements, citing the successful integration of Bru-Reang communities and the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Tripura in 2015 as examples of the administration’s dedication to peaceful resolutions.

Under the new agreement, NLFT and ATTF have pledged to disband their armed factions, abandon violence, and participate in the democratic process while upholding national integrity. This agreement is expected to enhance the stability and prosperity of Tripura, providing a foundation for lasting peace in the region.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah for their roles in establishing enduring peace and development in Tripura and the broader Northeast region.
