Mumbai Indians’ skipper, Hardik Pandya, found himself on the receiving end of a fine for a Code of Conduct breach during the enthralling Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 encounter against Punjab Kings on Thursday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the penalty, citing Hardik’s failure to meet the stipulated over-rate requirements during the match.
In the high-octane showdown, Mumbai Indians struggled to maintain the pace of play, resulting in an infringement of the over-rate regulations. Consequently, Hardik Pandya, at the helm of the Mumbai franchise, has been slapped with a fine of INR 12 lakh for the transgression.
The BCCI issued a statement post-match, elucidating the circumstances surrounding the penalty. “Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18,” the statement read.
While this marks the first instance of Hardik falling short of the over-rate criteria, a recurrence of the offense could entail more severe repercussions for him and his Mumbai Indians teammates.
