Government Mulls Ban on “Ferocious” Dog Breeds: Public Safety in Focus

New Delhi: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, operating under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, is currently deliberating a potential ban on certain dog breeds considered to be “ferocious” due to concerns about public safety. Among the breeds under review are Rottweilers, Pitbulls, and American Bulldogs.

Instances of attacks by dogs from these breeds in public spaces have prompted authorities to reevaluate regulations surrounding ownership and breeding. The decision to consider a ban stems from the need to address these safety concerns and ensure the well-being of citizens.

While the proposal is still in its early stages, discussions within the department are ongoing to assess the potential impact and feasibility of such a ban. The aim is to strike a balance between the rights of pet owners and the safety of the general public.

The outcome of these deliberations will be eagerly awaited by both dog enthusiasts and those concerned about public safety, as it could have significant implications for the future regulation of dog ownership in India.
