Visakhapatnam: Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, today announced that the upcoming 1-Gigawatt (GW) hyperscale Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam is projected to generate nearly ₹10,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh, marking a transformative milestone in the state’s digital and economic landscape.
Addressing the media following Google’s announcement of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam during the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, Dr. Chandrasekhar described the initiative as a “defining milestone in Swarandhra Pradesh’s journey of progress and self-reliance.”
The $15 billion (USD) investment, to be implemented over five years (2026–2030), will establish India’s first gigawatt-scale data centre and Google’s first AI hub in the country. The project is expected to create 5,000–6,000 direct jobs and 20,000–30,000 total employment opportunities, while catalysing major infrastructure development in power, cooling, and data connectivity in Visakhapatnam.
“This project will not only strengthen India’s digital backbone but also position Andhra Pradesh as a key player in the global AI ecosystem,” said Dr. Chandrasekhar. “The multiplier effect of this investment will accelerate economic activity and attract more tech-driven industries to the region.”
The Union Minister also lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fostering a conducive environment for large-scale technology investments in India and appreciated the proactive efforts of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh in enabling Google’s entry into Andhra Pradesh.
He emphasised that the project represents a strategic leap in establishing the state as a digital hub, aligning with India’s broader vision of AI-enabled growth and data-driven governance.
The Bharat AI Shakti event, which witnessed the landmark announcement, was attended by several dignitaries including Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics and IT; Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs; N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; Nara Lokesh, IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh; and Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.
The establishment of the Google Data Centre and AI Hub is expected to accelerate digital transformation across industries, support innovation in AI research, and strengthen India’s position as a global technology leader.
