Global Outage Hits Meta Platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads Facing Widespread Login Issues

Washington:Users across the globe are grappling with login issues on Meta’s popular platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, as a widespread outage cripples services. The disruption has affected hundreds of thousands of users, with reports pouring in from various countries.

Internet traffic observer Down Detector has highlighted significant outages on multiple Meta platforms, indicating a potential global impact. Netblocks, a London-based internet monitoring firm, reported on Tuesday that the four affected Meta platforms were experiencing outages related to login sessions across multiple countries. However, they noted that there was no evidence of country-level internet disruptions or filtering typically imposed by governments.

According to Downdetector.com, both Facebook and Instagram have experienced substantial disruptions, with over 300,000 reports for Facebook and about 40,000 reports for Instagram as of 10:00 am ET. The outage has led to an array of issues for users, including sudden logouts and difficulties accessing the platforms.

Meta Platforms-owned Facebook and Instagram were among the most severely impacted, with Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledging the problem in a social media post. Stone stated, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”

Meta’s status dashboard revealed that the application programming interface (API) for WhatsApp Business, also owned by Meta Platforms, was facing issues. Downdetector reported around 200 outages for WhatsApp, a widely used messaging platform.

The outage quickly became a trending topic on X, previously known as Twitter, with numerous users sharing their experiences of being abruptly logged out of Meta-owned social media platforms.

As users anxiously await a resolution, Meta has yet to provide a timeline for the restoration of its services. The company is facing a barrage of complaints and concerns from users who rely on these platforms for communication, social networking, and business purposes. The incident highlights the widespread impact that outages on major social media platforms can have on global internet users and the importance of swift resolution in an increasingly connected world.
