
Bhubaneswar: The forest department officials have rescued the gharial from Puri Canal near Hanspal, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on Friday.
A few days back, locals spotted the gharial species moving in the canal triggering fear among the residents.
The gharial will be under observation for 24 hr at Nandankanan before its re-release.
Jasobanta Behera, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) informed, “We traced the Gharial 3 days ago after receiving information. The water level in the canal was reduced to rescue the crocodile.”
We will keep the reptile in the Nandankanan for observation before its release, he informed.
