
Bhubaneswar: General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, assumed the role of the 30th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) today, succeeding General Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, who retired after over four decades of distinguished service.
With 40 years in the Armed Forces, General Dwivedi is an accomplished leader. An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa (MP), he was commissioned into the Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in 1984. His balanced command and staff experience spans the Northern, Eastern, and Western theaters in diverse operational environments.
Taking the helm at a time of dynamic global geo-strategic changes, General Dwivedi will focus on operational preparedness to address security threats to the nation. He also aims to develop strategies for non-traditional security challenges, strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
General Dwivedi’s expertise in modern and emerging technologies will be pivotal in integrating cutting-edge advancements into military systems. His vision aligns with the Indian Army’s modernization efforts and the Atmanirbharta initiative, aiming to leverage India’s technological ecosystem.
