Free Bus Travel Announced for NEET-UG Re-Exam Candidates in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Students appearing for the NEET-UG Re-Examination 2026 in Odisha will be able to travel free of cost on government buses on June 21, after the state government approved a special transportation arrangement to support examinees across the state.

The Commerce and Transport Department issued directions on Thursday to the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and the State Transport Authority (STA) for immediate implementation of the scheme. The decision has been taken with the approval of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

Officials said candidates will be allowed to travel free on buses by showing their valid NEET (UG) Re-Examination 2026 admit cards. The examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), will be held at 134 centres across Odisha.

The government said the initiative has been introduced to ensure that students can reach their examination centres safely and on time during the peak summer season. It is also aimed at reducing travel expenses for candidates, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds and remote areas.

In the official communication, Special Secretary Debadutta Suranjita Jena directed transport authorities to coordinate with district administrations, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system and the Higher Education Department to ensure smooth implementation of the facility across the state.

The department has asked OSRTC and STA officials to make adequate arrangements for bus services on examination day and submit regular reports on the progress of implementation. The communication has been marked as “Top Most Urgent”.

The free travel facility is expected to benefit thousands of students travelling from different districts to examination centres. Officials said the measure would help minimise travel-related stress and ensure equitable access to the examination process for all candidates.

The state government has been taking several steps in recent years to support students appearing for major competitive examinations, with a focus on improving accessibility and reducing logistical challenges faced by aspirants.
