
Kohima: The vibrant Local ground in Rusoma village witnessed the grand commencement of the fourth edition of the annual Orange Festival, themed “Organic Orange.” The two-day festival was inaugurated by Salhoutuonuo Kruse, the Minister for Women Resources & Horticulture.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest during the inauguration ceremony, Minister Kruse highlighted the significance of celebrating the festival in Rusoma, one of Nagaland’s most progressive orange-producing villages. She attributed this success to the dedicated efforts of the farmers, considering it a momentous occasion for the entire community.
Expressing her vision for Rusoma, Minister Kruse urged the villagers to aspire beyond being merely a thriving orange-producing village. She encouraged them to work towards making orange farming the primary source of livelihood for farmers in the near future.
Minister Kruse acknowledged the dynamic nature of horticulture and emphasized the importance of adapting to advancements in the field. She stressed the need for continuous improvement in intercultural practices, combining traditional wisdom with modern techniques to keep pace with the evolving horticultural landscape.
Appreciating the Department of Horticulture, Minister Kruse commended the provision of advanced drip irrigation units to progressive orange growers in Rusoma. She viewed this support as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to enhancing farming practices and ensuring sustainable growth.
The two-day Orange Festival not only celebrates the organic orange produce but also features live music performances, culinary delights, art exhibitions, and various other engaging activities, making it a holistic celebration of the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
