Flagship Defence Services Technical Staff Course Commences at Military Institute of Technology

Pune: The flagship Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) for tri-services officers commenced on June 10, 2024, at the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune. This prestigious course includes 166 officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and five officers from friendly foreign countries. The DSTSC is designed to train mid-career officers to become future techno-warriors and military leaders.

During the inaugural address, Commandant of MILIT, Air Vice Marshal Vivek Blouria, emphasized the importance of jointness and synergy among the services. He highlighted the critical need for understanding the unique capabilities of each service for effective warfighting in multi-domain operations. AVM Blouria also stressed the necessity for future techno-warriors to develop a robust understanding of emerging technologies and geopolitical issues impacting India’s military and security landscape. Such awareness is essential for making informed decisions and contributing effectively to military strategies, including the absorption of niche technologies in the services.

Throughout the course, officers will be exposed to various emerging technologies, defence strategies, live and simulated drills, seminars, collaborative projects, and visits to forward areas and defence R&D and industrial corridors. These activities aim to enhance their understanding of national security strategy, tactical operations, and the national efforts towards Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in military technologies.

In a pioneering initiative towards jointness by MILIT, Joint Divisions have been formed for conducting joint training. These divisions comprise officers from the tri-services, bringing together diverse skill sets and perspectives. This DSTSC will be the first to be trained by the newly formed Tri-Services Joint Training Teams, aiming to enhance the seamless coordination and integration required for multi-domain operations and to foster a joint culture among the officers.
