
Bhubaneswar: After touring various states in the country, the Hockey World Cup received a grand welcome on its arrival in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Early in the morning, the trophy reached the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), where Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das and other dignitaries received it.
Thousands of people gathered on roadside to cheer its arrival to the city which is going to host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup at Kalinga Stadium.
From the airport, the trophy was taken to Lingaraj Temple in a procession where it was greeted amidst the vedic chants.
Later it was taken to the Nexus Esplanade mall, SOA and KIIT University.
