New Delhi: In a significant development, the Food and Public Distribution Department has given its nod for the acceptance of 10 LMT (lakh metric tons) of fortified parboiled rice by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) from Odisha, as disclosed by Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
The decision, prompted by a letter from Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to Goyal, urging FCI to procure parboiled rice from Odisha during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2023-24, marks a crucial step toward supporting the agricultural community in the state.
The initial allocation target set by the Government of India for rice procurement was 44.28 LMT.
