Bhubaneswar: Silicon Valley-based high-technology firm FarmX has proposed an investment of ₹1,000 crore in Odisha to set up an advanced manufacturing and export hub for autonomous electric tractors, artificial intelligence software, robotics and intelligent farming systems.
The proposed facility is expected to generate up to 1,120 direct and 3,700 indirect jobs in specialised technology fields. It would have an annual production capacity of 1,000 autonomous electric tractors and one lakh field-sensing units for domestic as well as international markets.
A FarmX delegation led by Chief Operating Officer Premal Ashar and Head of AI Lalit Bhatt discussed the proposal with Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, officials of the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy departments, and Additional Chief Secretary, E&IT, Vishal Kumar Dev.
The proposed project combines an advanced manufacturing campus with a smart precision farming initiative, bringing autonomous mobility, AI and sensor-based technologies into agricultural operations.
Singh Deo said Odisha was working to attract global innovators in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and electric mobility. He said such investments could create high-skilled employment opportunities for the state’s youth while also supporting greater use of technology to improve agricultural productivity.
FarmX also plans to introduce its FarmMap open-architecture platform in Odisha. The system uses satellite imagery, patented OSMO soil-moisture sensors and a regional-language mobile application in Odia to provide real-time farm intelligence and support automated irrigation.
According to the proposal, the technology is designed to help farmers optimise the use of water, fertilisers and pesticides through data-driven farm management.
The proposal is currently under discussion with the Odisha government. The initiative also seeks to leverage the state’s infrastructure and policy support to establish a manufacturing base with access to domestic and international markets.
