Farewell to Distinguished Parliamentarians: A Tribute to Retiring Members

New Delhi:  In a poignant and emotional session, the hallowed chambers of the Parliament bid adieu to 68 esteemed colleagues who are retiring between February and May after completing their terms. The occasion was marked by heartfelt appreciation and acknowledgment of the profound contributions made by each of the retiring members.

The Hon’ble Chairman addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude for the distinguished service rendered by the retiring members, emphasizing their role in advancing the interests of Bharat and its citizens. The Chairman lauded the wisdom and contributions of these parliamentarians, acknowledging that their departure would leave a void in the legislative landscape.

The Chairman highlighted the significance of the Parliament as the sanctum sanctorum of the temple of democracy, where diverse views coalesce into a unity of purpose. The retiring members were commended for their commitment to serving the nation from this esteemed platform, contributing to transformative events in the country.

During their tenures, the Council of States witnessed pivotal moments, including the deletion of Article 370 and the securing of reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Legislature. The use of Indian languages in discussions increased, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the nation. The Chairman also noted the changes in the Panel of Vice-chairpersons, with many first-time members presiding over the Council.

The retirement of notable figures such as Shri Sushil Kumar Modi, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and Dr. C. M. Ramesh from chairing Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees was highlighted. The Chairman acknowledged the impactful tenure of these individuals in shaping legislative policies and scrutinizing government actions.

A special mention was made for the five esteemed women members, including Smt. Jaya Bachchan and Dr. Sonal Mansingh, who served on the panel of vice-chairpersons. The contributions of these members were recognized as invaluable to the quality of discourse in the House.

The Chairman also acknowledged the retirement of nine Ministers, including Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Shri Narayan Rane, and Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw. Their distinguished service in steering their respective ministries to greater heights was commended.

Expressing confidence in the continued engagement of retiring members in public life, the Chairman stated, “Every beginning has an end, and every end has a new beginning.” He emphasized that the wealth of parliamentary experience gained during their tenure would be an invaluable asset in their future endeavors.

As the session concluded, the Chairman extended heartfelt gratitude to the retiring members for their dedicated service, wishing them success in their future pursuits. The hope was expressed that they would continue to inspire and lead, making meaningful contributions to the welfare and progress of the nation.
