ESIC Sees 9 Percent Growth in Employee Registrations and Expands Coverage with New Establishments

New Delhi: The latest provisional payroll data released by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) reveals robust growth in employee registrations and the inclusion of new establishments under the ESI Scheme for the month of September 2024. According to the data, a total of 20.58 lakh new employees were added in September 2024, reflecting a 9% growth in net registrations compared to the same month in the previous year.

In addition to the rise in employee numbers, 23,043 new establishments were brought under the social security coverage of the ESI Scheme during the same period, ensuring a greater number of workers are now covered under social security.

Year on Year Growth

The year-on-year analysis further highlights the positive trends in the workforce’s integration into the ESI Scheme. In September 2023, 18.88 lakh new employees were registered, while in September 2024, the number rose to 20.58 lakh, marking an increase of 1.70 lakh employees. This shows the continued expansion of the scheme and its growing reach across sectors.

Demographic Breakdown

The demographic distribution of the new registrations reveals key insights into the workforce. Notably, nearly half of the new employees, approximately 10.05 lakh (48.83%), are from the age group of up to 25 years, signifying strong engagement with the younger workforce.

The gender-wise analysis further underscores the inclusivity of the scheme. In September 2024, 3.91 lakh female members enrolled under the ESI Scheme, marking a significant contribution to the social security framework for women workers. Additionally, the data also shows the registration of 64 transgender employees, emphasizing ESIC’s commitment to providing benefits to every section of society.

Expanding Coverage and Inclusion

The inclusion of new establishments and the rise in registrations of young, female, and transgender employees point to the growing success of the ESI Scheme in offering social security benefits across different demographics. This is in line with the government’s broader objective to enhance worker welfare and ensure that all employees have access to essential social security benefits.

As the scheme continues to expand, these figures reflect the ongoing efforts to improve the living standards of India’s workforce and integrate more individuals into the protective framework of social security.
