Enhancing Anganwadi Infrastructure is Pivotal for Mother and Child Development: Pravati Parida

Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who recently assumed charge of the Women and Child Development (WCD) and Mission Shakti departments, conducted an extensive review meeting late into the night at Lok Seva Bhavan’s conference room.

The meeting, attended by Principal Secretary Shubha Sarma and Director Monisha Banerjee among other department officials, focused on assessing the achievements, ongoing plans, and challenges faced by the Women and Child Development Department. Deputy Chief Minister Parida engaged in detailed discussions with officials to streamline the implementation of various programs and initiatives, stressing the need to reach the grassroots level effectively.

A key highlight of the meeting was Deputy Chief Minister Parida’s directive to prioritize infrastructural development across all Anganwadi centers statewide. She emphasized the importance of regular training and insurance coverage for Anganwadi workers and instructed officials to conduct routine inspections to ensure the preparation, hygiene, and quality of meals served at these centers, including the staple Chhatua.

Testing the functionality of the state Women Helpline number firsthand, Deputy Chief Minister Parida underscored the importance of robust support mechanisms for women in need. She advocated for the expansion of working women hostels and called for the establishment of crèche facilities in both government and private institutions to facilitate working mothers.

Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Parida directed the department to expedite the formulation of guidelines for the Subhadra Yojana, aimed at empowering women economically. She emphasized tackling crimes against women proactively, urging the State Women Commission to expedite pending cases through camp courts and mutual settlements.

Addressing workplace safety, Deputy Chief Minister Parida urged a thorough review of the implementation of Vishaka guidelines across various sectors to ensure a safe and dignified working environment for women.

Principal Secretary Shubha Sarma commended Deputy Chief Minister Parida’s proactive approach and reiterated the department’s commitment to advancing women and child welfare in Odisha. The meeting concluded with a commitment to implement strategic reforms and initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall well-being and empowerment of women and children across the state.
