Energy Conservation Must Become a Way of Life, Says Deputy CM Singh Deo

Bhubaneswar: The State-Level National Energy Conservation Day was commemorated in Bhubaneswar today with a series of events aimed at raising awareness about the importance of energy conservation in combating global warming and climate change. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Empowerment, and Energy, inaugurated the occasion and called for proactive measures to integrate energy-saving practices into daily life.

The day began with a public awareness rally that commenced at 8 AM from Kalinga Stadium and concluded at Power House Square. Organized by the Energy Department and CES, the rally drew participation from students, professionals, and members of the public, all advocating for sustainable energy practices.

A state-level exhibition was held at the Convention Center of Lokseva Bhavan, where innovative energy-efficient devices, electric vehicles, and solar panels were displayed. The event also featured models created by school students from all 30 districts of Odisha, highlighting creative approaches to energy conservation.

Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy CM Singhdeo emphasized the need to translate awareness into action. “Our efforts in energy conservation must extend beyond seminars and conferences. Simple steps like turning off unused appliances and adopting renewable energy sources can significantly combat climate change,” he said. He urged collective action under the vision of Viksit Bharat, Viksit Odisha to create a sustainable future for generations to come.

A highlight of the event was the state-wide quiz competition on energy conservation, which saw participation from approximately 1,50,000 students from Class 7 to Class 10. The top 30 contestants, selected through block and district-level rounds, showcased their knowledge at the state-level exhibition. The top three winners were awarded cash prizes of ₹7,000, ₹5,000, and ₹3,000, along with certificates.

Additionally, industries with exemplary energy conservation projects were honored with state-level awards, underscoring the role of the industrial sector in advancing sustainability.

Deputy CM Singhdeo’s address underscored the vital role of energy conservation in addressing global warming. He highlighted the importance of renewable energy and green practices, urging every citizen to contribute toward reducing energy wastage.
