Empowering Communities: Union Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Launches ‘Citizen Corner’ under Jal Jeevan Mission

Lucknow:  In a significant move towards promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in water management, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, launched the ‘Citizen Corner’ initiative on the dynamic dashboard of Jal Jeevan Mission. The unveiling took place at a two-day national workshop in Lucknow, attended by dignitaries including Shri Swatantra Dev Singh, Jal Shakti Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Smt. Vini Mahajan, Secretary-DDWS, among others.

Aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas & Sabka Prayas,’ the ‘Citizen Corner’ serves as a one-stop solution, offering a user-friendly interface with real-time details on water quality and other water supply information at the village level. This initiative empowers citizens by putting the ability to manage water quality and supply directly into their hands.

The ‘Citizen Corner’ is designed to facilitate transparency and accountability in water management. It allows citizens to access real-time information about water quality, raise concerns through an online complaint form, or a toll-free number provided by States/UTs. The tool enables citizens to manage water quality effectively, providing information on the nearest water testing laboratory, rate lists for chemical and bacteriological parameters, and even allowing them to book a test seamlessly.

If citizens find that water quality does not meet prescribed limits, they can easily lodge a complaint, bringing it to the attention of the water supply department in their district. This citizen-centric tool serves as a bridge between information and action, enhancing people’s confidence in effective water management.

Under the banner of ‘Stay Informed, Stay Empowered,’ the ‘Citizen Corner’ empowers individuals with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about water safety. By offering real-time access to information, the initiative not only strengthens the confidence of the people but also facilitates quick grievance redressal. The ‘Citizen Corner’ stands as a testament to the commitment of the Jal Jeevan Mission to make valuable resources readily available to the communities it serves.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to making data and information accessible to the rural population and strengthens the overall transparency and ease of water management at the grassroots level. The ‘Citizen Corner’ is a forward-looking step towards building a water-secure and empowered nation.
