
Elisabeth Borne becomes the first female prime minister of France in the last 30 years. On Monday she was appointed as the prime minister by President Emmanuel Macron.
61-year-old, Borne has served as labour minister since 2020 during the term of Macron as president. She held the portfolio of transport minister, and then minister for ecological transition – both under Macron.
She is the second woman to hold the office of Prime Minister after Edith Cresson held the post in 1991-92 under President Francois Mitterrand.
