Ekamra Walks to Spotlight Boudh’s Traditional Sabar Sabaruni Nata in Upcoming Odia Literary Trail

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: The Odia Literary Trail under Ekamra Walks- an initiative of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA)- will continue every Sunday till February 2026, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The trail invites citizens, students, and culture enthusiasts to explore Odisha’s literary and linguistic heritage through curated performances, storytelling, and expert lectures.

The highlight of this weekend’s programme is the traditional “Sabar Sabaruni Nata,” performed by a folk troupe from Boudh district. Rooted deeply in indigenous customs, rituals, and oral narratives, this performance offers participants a rare opportunity to experience the richness of Odisha’s tribal cultural traditions.

Adding to the immersive experience, the trail will also feature a storytelling session by one of the state’s renowned professional storytellers. She will present ‘Nila Mastarani’ by Pandit Godabarish Mohapatra, bringing to life a timeless piece of Odia literature through an engaging theatrical narration.

The event further includes a special lecture by Dr. Debasish Mahapatra, titled “The Chronological Development of Odia Script and Language.” His session will trace the historical evolution of the Odia script, offering insights into the linguistic depth and cultural continuity of the language.

Officials from the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department, which is partnering in the initiative, noted that combining folk art, storytelling, and academic discussion within a public heritage programme enhances cultural education and fosters community participation.

Registrations can be made online at www.ekamra-walks.com, or via phone at 7005205400. Participants are requested to report to Ekamra Haat before the walk begins on Sunday.
