East Coast Railway Sets New Record with 281.5 km Track Expansion in FY 2024-25

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a major milestone in infrastructure development by commissioning a total of 281.5 kilometers of new railway lines and multi-tracking during the financial year 2024-25. This marks a remarkable 50 percent increase over the previous year’s achievement of 187.2 kilometers and highlights ECoR’s continued commitment to enhancing rail connectivity and operational efficiency.

Congratulating the construction team and stakeholders for their coordinated efforts, ECoR General Manager Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal said the achievement reflects the railway zone’s dedication to modernizing its network. He acknowledged the proactive role played by the construction team and regular coordination with state authorities, which enabled the successful implementation of multiple projects.

The track expansion spans across several key routes. Major projects completed include parts of the Koraput-Singapur Road Doubling Project, the Kirandul-Jagdalpur Doubling Project, and the Budhapank-Salegaon Third and Fourth Line Project. Progress was also made in the Khurda Road-Balangir New Line Project, the Kottavalasa-Koraput Doubling Project, and the Bhadrak-Nergundi Third Line Project, among others. These additions are expected to significantly improve the flow of both passenger and freight trains, reduce congestion, and enhance overall service delivery.

Among the completed stretches are Laksahmipur Road to Tikiri in the Koraput-Rayagada sector, Dantewada to Kamlur and Bacheloi to Kirandul in the Dantewada region, and Dhenkanal to Hindol Road under the Budhapank-Salegaon project. The Sonepur to Purunakatak section under the Khurda Road-Balangir Rail Line Project also saw significant progress. Other completed segments include parts of the Talcher-Bimalagarh New Line, the Jarapada-Budhapank and Bhadrak-Nergundi third line projects, along with several stretches in the Kottavalasa-Koraput corridor.

This achievement is a part of ECoR’s broader strategy to build a modern, efficient, and sustainable railway system. The railway zone’s focused approach not only accelerates connectivity across the eastern region but also creates new opportunities for trade, industry, and regional development. With a strong foundation laid in 2024-25, ECoR is set to play a crucial role in meeting the country’s growing transportation demands, backed by its core principles of safety, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
