DRDO Hosts ‘Sushree’ Workshop to Promote Women’s Leadership in Science

Balasore: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday organised the ‘Sushree’ workshop at the Proof and Experimental Establishment in Chandipur, Balasore to promote women’s leadership and participation in science and defence research as part of the celebrations of International Women’s Day.

Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg inaugurated the workshop, which was held under the theme “Give to Gain.” The programme brought together women scientists, researchers and officials from various DRDO laboratories across the country to discuss ways to strengthen the role of women in scientific innovation and strategic sectors.

Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of DRDO, along with directors of several DRDO laboratories and women scientists, attended the event. Speakers highlighted the growing contributions of women in research and emphasised the need to further encourage their participation and leadership in defence technology.

During the event, the dignitaries released a souvenir titled ‘Sushree’ and inaugurated an exhibition highlighting scientific work and achievements of women researchers. Garg also visited the exhibition stalls and interacted with participants.

Later, the Chief Secretary chaired a review meeting at the district collector’s office in Balasore to assess the progress of key development initiatives in the district. Senior officials from the district administration and various departments were present at the meeting.

Balasore Collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas presented details of several ongoing and proposed projects, including the Subarnarekha port project, the Subarnarekha reforms and tourism initiative, and plans to promote exports of commodities such as pulses and seafood from the district.

Officials also discussed proposals for infrastructure and urban development, including the construction of a ring road, establishment of a museum dedicated to art, science and literature, and a proposal to upgrade Balasore into a municipal corporation. Garg emphasised the need for timely implementation of development projects and directed officials to ensure better coordination among departments to accelerate the district’s growth.
