DRDO Hands over first batch of Leading Edge Actuators and Airbrake Control Module to HAL

Lucknow: The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), a wing of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has delivered the first batch of indigenous Leading Edge Actuators and Airbrake Control Module to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This milestone marks a significant stride towards bolstering India’s self-reliance in aeronautical technologies.

The Leading Edge Actuators and Airbrake Control Module, integral components of the Secondary Flight Control system of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, now feature state-of-the-art servo-valve based electro-hydraulic servo actuators and control modules. Engineered with precision and redundancy, these high-pressure actuators signify a culmination of ADA’s relentless pursuit of indigenous technological prowess.

In collaboration with Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, and Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bengaluru, ADA has been steadfast in its mission to achieve self-reliance in critical aircraft technologies. Following successful flight trials, HAL’s Lucknow division has commenced production for equipping the Mk-1A variant of LCA Tejas.

The production of these cutting-edge components at HAL’s Accessories Division in Lucknow is a testament to India’s burgeoning aerospace manufacturing capabilities. The endeavor has seen notable contributions from both public and private industries, including Godrej Aerospace, Mumbai, alongside support from certification agencies such as CEMILAC and DGAQA.

Congratulating the collaborative efforts of ADA, RCI, HAL, CMTI, and all participating industries, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, along with the Director-General of ADA, hailed this achievement as a significant milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliance in aircraft technology.
