DRDO Hands Over AHSP of P-7 Parachute System to DGQA, Paving the Way for Advanced Aerial Deployments

New Delhi: The Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) of the P-7 Parachute System has been formally handed over to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra. The ceremony, held at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi, was presided over by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO.

The P-7 Parachute System, designed, developed, and qualified by ADRDE, represents a critical advancement in India’s aerial delivery capacity. Fabricated by Gliders India Limited (Ordnance Parachute Factory) in Kanpur, this parachute system is engineered to safely drop payloads weighing up to 9.5 tons from IL-76 aircraft at altitudes of up to four kilometers. The Indian Army can now rapidly deploy essential equipment, such as the Light Field Gun and Jeep, directly into border and conflict areas, offering a significant tactical advantage.

The P-7 Parachute System has successfully undergone rigorous General Staff Evaluation and is now officially inducted into military service. To support its operational needs, the Indian Army has placed an initial order with Gliders India Limited for the supply of 146 P-7 Heavy Drop Parachute Systems.
