
New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) marked National Technology Day 2024 with fervor and dedication, organizing a series of lectures and orations across its laboratories and establishments on May 10, 2024. The occasion was graced by the presence of Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat, who presided over a special function organized by the Defence Science Forum (DSF) in Delhi.
Addressing a gathering of scientists and technologists, Dr. Samir V Kamat extended warm greetings and called upon them to rededicate themselves to serving the nation by pioneering cutting-edge technologies, thus contributing to the nation’s strength and self-reliance.
The event featured esteemed guests, including former GM of Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, Shri Sudhanshu Mani, who served as the Chief Guest, and Chief Technologist for Amazon Web Services, Smt. Shalini Kapoor, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Shri Sudhanshu Mani delivered a keynote address on ‘Leadership and innovations in large organisations: some takeaways from Vande Bharat/Train 18 Project’, while Smt. Shalini Kapoor shared insights on ‘Future trends in AI and Digital Transformations’.
Dr. UK Singh, Convener DSF and Director General (Life Sciences), highlighted the significance of AI in R&D and underscored the necessity for innovative leadership styles in large organizations like DRDO during his welcome address.
A total of forty-five oration papers were received from various DRDO laboratories and establishments, out of which the best three were selected for presentation. Additionally, the DRDO Technology Day Spectrum was released, alongside the unveiling of a monograph titled ‘Investigations on failures of defence hardware components: Fundamentals and case histories’ authored by former Scientist ‘G’, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Dr. KP Balan. Several DRDO publications, including DRDO Newsletter (2024), Defence Science Journal (May 2024), and the Defence Scientific Information & Documentation Centre (DESIDOC) Journal of Library science and information technology, were also released. Commendation Certificates were bestowed upon DRDO scientists, and National Technology Day Orators were felicitated for their significant contributions.
