DPH, PATH-CHRI Conduct Training for Entomologists and Insect Collectors on Vector Borne Diseases

Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards enhancing the state’s Vector Borne Disease Control Program, the Directorate of Public Health (DPH) in collaboration with PATH-CHRI (Centre for Health Research and Innovation) has launched a three-day training program for entomologists and insect collectors from both district and state units.

The training, inaugurated today at a special session in Bhubaneswar, aims to further equip professionals with the necessary skills to tackle vector-borne diseases (VBDs) effectively. The program combines theoretical learning, field exposure, and interactive brainstorming sessions to provide a comprehensive understanding of entomological practices.

Key figures from the health sector graced the event, including Director Health Service Dr. Bijay Mohapatra, Director of Public Health Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Senior Regional Director for RoH & FW, Government of India, Dr. Suchitra Sasmal, and Additional Director of Health Services (Vector-Borne Disease), Odisha, Dr. Prabhakar Sahu, alongside other senior officials.

Dr. Bijay Mohapatra emphasized the importance of strengthening Entomological Surveillance, particularly in coastal regions of Odisha, which are more vulnerable to vector-borne diseases. He stated, “This training is crucial for enhancing the state’s preparedness and response to VBD outbreaks.”

Dr. Nilakantha Mishra highlighted that the program will focus on not only improving fieldwork but also ensuring that state-level entomological data is accurately collected and analyzed for better disease management.

Dr. Suchitra Sasmal, from RoH & FW, Government of India, added, “By building the capacity of entomologists and insect collectors, we aim to create a robust framework that supports the effective control of vector-borne diseases across Odisha.”

The training will cover various aspects of vector surveillance, identification of disease vectors, and implementation of control measures. Participants will also receive hands-on experience during field visits to enhance practical knowledge in real-world settings.
