Bhubaneswar: People across Odisha celebrated ‘Dola Purnima’ today with much religious fervor and gaiety. The festival is observed on the full-moon day in the month of Phalguna (March), where the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha are carried out in beautifully decorated palanquins in a procession.
Swinging on the shoulders of palanquin bearers, the deities visit every household in villages where the devotees greet the lord with special prasad and abeer (colour).
After finishing the rounds of villages, the idols of the Radha-Krishna are then taken to a ground for the ‘Dola Melena’ where the idols from other villages gather and play Holi.
In Puri Srimandir, the idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are decked up in ‘Suna Besha’ to mark the festival.
