Direct Bhubaneswar–Jharsuguda Flights Take Off, Boosting Odisha’s Regional Air Network

Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha is now directly connected to the State capital by air, with the Odisha Government today inaugurating direct flight services between Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda. The service, operated by Star Air under the B-MAAN (Building and Management of Aviation Assets and Network) scheme, marks a major milestone in the State’s efforts to expand regional aviation.

The inaugural flight was flagged off from Biju Patnaik International Airport by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, who described the launch as a step that will not only shorten distances within the State but also accelerate industrial growth, tourism, and cultural exchange.

The 76-seater aircraft will connect the two cities five days a week — Tuesday through Saturday — before moving to a daily schedule from August 24, 2025. The service is supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under Odisha’s New Destination Policy.

According to the Commerce & Transport Department, the initiative is expected to act as a catalyst for socio-economic development, especially in western Odisha. Officials said the route would strengthen connectivity, generate opportunities, and reinforce the State’s vision of “Aviation for All.”
