Diarrhoea Outbreak Sickens 28 Students at Mayurbhanj Ashram School

Mayurbhanj: Health concerns have escalated at Patrapoda Ashram School in Odisha’s Thakurmunda block after 28 students reportedly fell ill due to a diarrhoea outbreak, raising fears of contaminated food or water being the cause.

The incident came to light after several students complained of stomach issues and weakness. All affected children were taken to the Thakurmunda Community Health Centre for treatment. Two students in critical condition were later shifted to the Anandapur Sub-Divisional Hospital for advanced care.

The remaining sick students are receiving medical attention at the school itself. A team of doctors has been sent to the site to identify the source of the illness and monitor the situation.

Local authorities, including the Block Development Officer, visited the campus to review health arrangements and oversee precautionary steps. Though the exact cause remains unconfirmed, preliminary suspicions point to food or water contamination.

Of the school’s 372 students, 23 are currently under observation in the hostel, while health workers continue to monitor others closely to prevent further spread of the infection.

The district health department has assured that necessary measures are being implemented, including improving sanitation and raising awareness among staff and students.
