DHSE Organizes Capacity-Building Workshop for Principals of Govt. Upgraded Higher Secondary Schools

Bhubaneswar: In a focused effort to enhance the leadership and administrative capabilities of school heads, the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE), under the Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha, conducted a one-day review-cum-capacity building programme for Principals-in-Charge of Government Upgraded Higher Secondary Schools. The workshop was held at Krushi Bhavan, Bhubaneswar.

The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Subhasree Nanda, Additional Secretary, School and Mass Education Department, who emphasized the transformative role that youth can play in the development of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). “Teachers and principals are the guiding force behind youth empowerment. Today’s workshop is an opportunity to strengthen their capacity and ensure they are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth,” she stated.

Director of DHSE, Raghuram R. Iyer, welcomed the participants and highlighted the objectives of the workshop. He underlined the importance of strong school leadership in achieving academic excellence and improving school governance.

Sasmita Sahu, Joint Director, OSEPA, noted that the programme aimed to sharpen the administrative and academic skills of Principals-in-Charge by addressing practical challenges and equipping them with efficient strategies for school management. “Problem-solving begins with the right mindset. With focused efforts, principals can bring about positive, measurable changes,” she added.

Providing an overview of the workshop structure, Diptimayee Subhadarshini, Joint Director, Regional Directorate of Education, Bhubaneswar, guided participants through the different sessions and expected outcomes.

Throughout the day, the participating principals were engaged in detailed sessions covering a range of critical areas including effective examination management, academic performance analysis, career counselling for students, scholarship procedures, the e-admission system, guest faculty engagement protocols, and fund utilization under Samagra Shiksha and PM SHRI schools.

Additional topics such as UDISE data updates, preparation of APPAR IDs, and self-defence training initiatives for girl students were also discussed, underscoring the holistic approach to school governance and student welfare.
