Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav concludes: A Melange of Dance, Music, and Martial Arts

Bhubaneswar: The curtains fell on the 20th Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav, a celebration of peace and Indian classical arts, with a mesmerizing valedictory evening at Dhauli. Organized by the Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Government of Odisha, in collaboration with the Orissa Dance Academy, the event showcased the richness of classical dances, music, and martial arts.

The prestigious Buddha Samman 2024 was awarded to Madhavi Mudgal, an acclaimed Odissi dancer and guru, recognizing her lifetime contributions to the field of Odissi dance. Additionally, Guru Gangadhar Smruti Samman 2024 honored individuals who have significantly contributed to various art forms, including Guru Simanchala Patro, Pt. Debendra Narayan Satapathy, Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, and Dr. Siddhartha Mohanty.

The concluding evening commenced with a Bharatnatyam performance titled “Abhanga-Ranga” by Vaibhav Arekar & Group from Sankhya Dance Creations, Mumbai. The dance, choreographed by Vaibhav Arekar and featuring soulful devotional poems from Maharashtra, showcased the cultural richness and influence of saint poets in the region.

The grand finale featured a Contemporary Martial Art presentation titled “Mahakshatriya” by Janardhan Raj Urs & Group from Cornucopia Creations, Bangalore. The performance depicted the journey of Koushika, a monarch who realized the supremacy of spiritual valor over worldly wealth and physical might. The narrative unfolded with rich choreography, music composed by Praveen D. Rao, and lighting designed by Debiprasad Mishra.

The 20th Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav not only celebrated the diverse forms of Indian art but also honored the luminaries who have dedicated their lives to preserving and enriching the cultural heritage of the nation.
