Department of Science and Technology Launches “Swachhata Hi Seva” Campaign Across the Country

New Delhi: The Department of Science and Technology (DST) launched the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign on September 17, 2024, across its various buildings and offices, including its autonomous bodies and subordinate offices located throughout the country. The campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness and sanitation, reflects the department’s commitment to a garbage-free and clean India.

During the launch, the Secretary of DST led the department in taking the Swachhata Pledge, instilling a sense of responsibility and dedication among officers and staff towards the cause of a cleaner nation. A total of 395 officers and staff members of DST participated in the pledge ceremony, committing themselves to the campaign’s objectives.

In a countrywide effort, 2,957 employees from 26 autonomous bodies and 2,549 employees from subordinate offices of DST also took the pledge, marking their support for maintaining cleanliness in their respective institutions and surroundings.

The campaign seeks to extend its impact beyond the workplace. To spread awareness among younger generations, a drawing and painting competition on the theme “Clean India of My Dream” was organized for students from various States and Union Territories on September 17-18, 2024. This initiative is aimed at engaging children in the Swachh Bharat mission and instilling the value of cleanliness from a young age.

In addition, from September 20 to 30, 2024, the DST will conduct a Lecture cum Awareness Session on “Cleanliness & its Impact on Health” in nearby government schools, fostering a deeper understanding of the direct link between hygiene and overall well-being.

As part of the campaign’s focus on ensuring the welfare of sanitation workers, a preventive health check-up will be held on September 26, 2024, for the sanitation workers employed by DST. In conjunction with the health initiative, safety gear and cleanliness tools will be distributed to 104 sanitation workers, reinforcing the department’s commitment to their safety and well-being.
