Bhubaneswar: Odisha is witnessing a troubling surge in dengue cases, with Khordha district emerging as the epicenter of the outbreak. The latest official reports indicate that the state has recorded around 2,000 dengue cases to date, with more than 500 of these concentrated in Khordha.
In Bhubaneswar, the Niladri Vihar area has been particularly affected, contributing to the rising number of cases in the city.
Odisha’s Director of Public Health, Niranjan Mishra, highlighted that the increase in dengue cases is not limited to Khordha. Sundargarh, Rourkela, Bolangir, and Cuttack districts are also experiencing a significant rise in cases, signaling a widespread outbreak across the state.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das voiced her concern over the escalating situation in the capital city. “The rise in dengue cases in Bhubaneswar is alarming,” she stated. In response, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out several measures to prevent the disease from spreading further. “I strongly encourage residents to use mosquito nets and seek medical advice at the first sign of fever. Moreover, active participation in the BMC’s Dry Day campaign is crucial for eliminating stagnant water, which is essential to prevent mosquito breeding,” Mayor Das urged.
As the monsoon season creates ideal conditions for mosquito breeding, public health authorities and local governments are ramping up efforts to contain the dengue outbreak across Odisha.
