DefConnect 2024: Paving the Way for Indigenous Innovation and Collaboration in Defence

New Delhi:  In a groundbreaking initiative to champion indigenous innovation and foster strategic partnerships to combat evolving security challenges, Innovations for Defence Excellence-Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO), under the patronage of the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, is set to host DefConnect 2024 at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi on March 04, 2024. The prestigious event will be inaugurated by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh.

DefConnect 2024 signifies a remarkable milestone in India’s defence innovation landscape, bringing together pivotal stakeholders, including the Armed Forces, defence industry leaders, start-ups, academia, and policymakers. The event’s overarching goal is to facilitate meaningful engagements, showcase cutting-edge technologies, and serve as a transformative platform for nurturing collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the defence sector. Anticipated to attract a substantial number of innovators and investors from India’s leading defence industries, DefConnect 2024 is poised to shape the future of defence innovation in the country.

Central to the success of the iDEX framework is its ability to facilitate collaboration between military personnel and innovators within a co-development model. Military representatives act as end users, nodals, and domain experts, guiding innovation and seamlessly integrating advancements into existing platforms by leveraging their expertise and insights.

To date, iDEX has successfully launched 10 rounds of the Defence India Start-up Challenge (DISC) and 11 rounds of Open Challenges (OC), receiving an overwhelming response with more than 9,000 applications from individual innovators and start-ups. Challenges span across the Tri-Services, Defence Space Agency, Defence Public Sector Undertakings, Indian Coast Guard, Border Roads Organisation, and other key agencies. Notably, the event will feature an All-Women Panel Discussion on ‘Women as Drivers of Change,’ ahead of International Women’s Day on March 08, 2024.

A major highlight of DefConnect 2024 will be the showcase of cutting-edge technologies developed by iDEX winners. This exhibition provides a unique opportunity for visitors to meet iDEX start-ups and gain valuable insights into their groundbreaking technologies.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, iDEX serves as a unified platform for various stakeholders in the defence and aerospace sectors. Operating as an umbrella organization, iDEX oversees technology development and fosters potential collaborations in this critical field. DefConnect 2024 is set to be a landmark event, propelling India towards self-reliance and technological excellence in the defence sector.
