Dana Cyclone: Odisha CM Emphasizes Safety and Swift Response

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today chaired a crucial review meeting to assess the state’s preparedness for the impending Cyclone Dana, assuring the public that the government is fully equipped to manage the potential impact of the storm.

Following the meeting, CM Majhi addressed the media, emphasizing a firm commitment to ensuring zero casualties and the complete evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas. “We are prioritizing a 100% evacuation of all high-risk areas. All cyclone shelters will be fully stocked and equipped with necessary supplies to ensure safety. Our aim is zero casualties in this operation,” he stated.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, expected to develop into Cyclone Dana. The cyclone is projected to make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island on the morning of October 24, with wind speeds anticipated to reach between 110-120 kmph.

The review meeting was attended by the Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, Chief Secretary, State Relief Commissioner (SRC), and various department secretaries, with District Collectors participating virtually. CM Majhi laid out detailed preparations for the state’s disaster response, noting that Fire Services, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are fully mobilized and ready for immediate action.

In addition to evacuation efforts, the Chief Minister discussed the importance of quickly restoring essential services post-cyclone, including electricity, drinking water, and telecommunications, with a particular focus on ensuring uninterrupted power supply to hospitals. Authorities were also instructed to monitor against any black marketing of essential goods during the emergency.

Majhi concluded by urging the public to stay calm and adhere to official advisories, reiterating that the state government is taking every possible measure to protect lives and ensure swift recovery efforts in the aftermath of the cyclone. The government’s proactive stance aims to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Dana and safeguard the well-being of Odisha’s residents.
