
Guwahati: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, in collaboration with the host state of Assam, conducted a crucial “Regional Training of 21st Livestock Census on Software (Mobile & Web Application/ Dashboard) and Breeds” today. The workshop, held in Guwahati, aimed to equip State and District Nodal Officers (SNO/DNO) from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Meghalaya with detailed training on newly launched applications for the upcoming 21st Livestock Census scheduled between September and December 2024.
The event commenced with an overview of the 21st Livestock Census provided by the Animal Husbandry Statistics Division, highlighting its importance in gathering precise statistics crucial for various livestock sector programs and the National Indicator Framework (NIF) of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A comprehensive presentation by ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) on breed details underscored the significance of accurate breed identification.
Detailed sessions followed on methodologies and practical application of the newly developed software for the census. Experts from the Software team of DAHD trained the SNOs/DNOs on mobile applications and dashboard software, essential for efficient data collection and management during the census period. These officers will subsequently train enumerators at district headquarters across their respective states.
The inauguration of the workshop was graced by Atul Bora, Cabinet Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Food Processing, Government of Assam, along with other dignitaries including Manish Thakur, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Jagat Hazarika, ISS, Adviser (Statistics), Government of India, Anil Ch. Deori, ACS, Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Government of Assam, V.P. Singh, ISS, Director (Statistics), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, and B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal.
