Cuttack Police Warns Against Hazardous Kite Threads on Makar Sankranti

Cuttack: As the residents gear up to celebrate Makar Sankranti with kite-flying activities in Cuttack, Odisha, the police have issued a stern warning against the use of Chinese “Manja” (glass-coated synthetic threads) and plastic threads.

Additional DCP Anil Mishra emphasized on Sunday that strict actions would be taken against individuals flying kites using Chinese Manja threads. Due to the presence of glass, iron dust, and other sharp materials in these threads, they pose a significant threat to people, especially two-wheeler riders and birds.

To ensure the effective implementation of the ban on Chinese Manja threads, special police teams have been deployed to inspect kite shops and take necessary actions. Any shop found selling the banned items and individuals caught using them will face legal consequences.

Despite the ban, the sale of Chinese Manja threads, plastic threads, and threads coated with fine glass particles persists in different parts of the city, particularly during kite-flying competitions.
