
Dehradun: The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) in Dehradun marked its 65th Foundation Day with grand celebrations held on its campus today. Established on April 14, 1960, the institute has remained a pioneer in research and development, driving innovation and fostering collaborations with industry partners.
The momentous occasion was graced by Padma Bhushan Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Hon’ble Member of NITI Aayog and Mentor of CSIR-IIP, who presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Dr. Saraswat, in his address, extended his congratulations to the entire team at CSIR-IIP on reaching this milestone and conveyed his best wishes for the institute’s continued success. He also delivered a lecture on “Energy Transition in India,” emphasizing the importance of cleaner and carbon-free technologies in shaping the future. Dr. Saraswat urged scientists to undertake research in areas such as e-Methanol and Green Hydrogen, highlighting the imperative for India to lead in carbon neutrality on the global stage.
During his interaction with the scientific community of CSIR-IIP, Dr. Saraswat commended the dedication and contributions of scientists, technicians, students, and staff towards enhancing the institute’s reputation. He offered valuable insights and suggestions for the institute’s roadmap from 2024 to 2030, aimed at aligning research initiatives with the developmental goals of the nation.
Dr. Harender Singh Bisht, Director of CSIR-IIP, underscored the institute’s significant achievements over the past 64 years, including breakthroughs in Numaligarh Wax Plant, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, US Grade Gasoline, and Medical Oxygen Units, among others. As part of the celebrations, students and teachers from Oak Grove School, Mussoorie, participated in the Jigyasa 2.0 program. The program aimed to nurture scientific curiosity among school students, providing them with an opportunity to interact with scientists and researchers at CSIR-IIP.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Anjum Sharma, Senior Controller of Administration at CSIR-IIP, expressing gratitude to all individuals whose support contributed to the success of the program.
