Cricketer Mithali Raj retires from international cricket

Cricketer Mithali Raj, announced her retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday.

Making the announcement on Twitter, she shared a heartwarming statement about her 23-year-long career. She is the most-capped Indian women’s cricketer, and is the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket having amassed 10,868 runs from 333 matches.

A recipient of the Arjuna award, Padma Shri awardee and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award, Mithali made her debut in the cricket world in  1999 at the age of 16.

Mithali led India to the finals in two World Cups 2005 and 2017. In ODIs, she had scored 7805 runs from 232 matches. In T20Is, she is the county’s highest run-getter. She played 12 Tests and is only women cricketer to score double-century 214  in 2002 against England.
