Congress’s Kishori Lal Sharma Defeats Smriti Irani in Amethi Lok Sabha Seat

Amethi, June 4, 2024 – In a stunning electoral victory, Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma has won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, defeating incumbent Union Minister and BJP candidate Smriti Irani by a significant margin of 167,196 votes. According to the Election Commission’s official data, Sharma secured 539,228 votes, while Irani garnered 372,032 votes.

This victory marks a significant comeback for the Congress in Amethi, a constituency historically associated with the Gandhi family but which Irani won in 2019. Sharma’s vote share stands at 54.99 percent, decisively ahead of Irani’s 37.94 percent.

Sharma’s win is seen as a major boost for the Congress party, which has been working to regain its foothold in key constituencies across the country. The result from Amethi, a high-profile and symbolic seat, is likely to energize the party’s supporters and strategists as they look to build on this momentum in future elections.

In his victory speech, Sharma thanked the voters of Amethi for their support and confidence in his leadership. He promised to focus on development issues and work towards addressing the needs and aspirations of the constituency’s residents.
