Bhubaneswar: The minor girl from Balanga in Puri district, who suffered 75% burn injuries in a shocking attack, continues to remain in critical condition, according to an official update from AIIMS New Delhi.
The 15-year-old was airlifted to the national capital from AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening for advanced treatment. Upon arrival at 4:20 PM, she was immediately admitted to the Burn ICU in the Burns and Plastic Surgery Block.
“She is on oxygen support and under round-the-clock monitoring by a team of specialists,” said Dr. Rima Dada, Professor In-Charge of the Media Cell at AIIMS Delhi. “Her condition remains critical.”
The girl was reportedly attacked near a river embankment in Bayabar village under the jurisdiction of Balanga police station. Miscreants allegedly doused her with a mixture of petrol and kerosene before setting her ablaze. Despite her severe injuries, she managed to reach a nearby house, where locals came to her aid and rushed her to Pipili Community Health Centre. She was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to the extent of her burns.
The brutal incident has sparked widespread outrage across Odisha, with political leaders, rights activists, and citizens demanding swift justice and harsher punishments for those responsible. The police have detained several suspects, and a high-level investigation is underway.
