Coal Production in India Sees Significant Growth in September 2024

New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has reported a substantial increase in coal production for September 2024, reaching 68.94 million tonnes (MT), a 2.49% rise from last year’s figure of 67.26 MT for the same period. This growth is part of a broader upward trend in coal production and dispatch aimed at meeting India’s rising energy demands.

Cumulatively, coal production for the fiscal year 2024-25 (up to September 2024) stands at 453.01 MT (provisional), representing a 5.85% growth compared to the 427.97 MT produced during the same period in FY 2023-24.

In addition to increased production, coal dispatch also saw notable growth. In September 2024, coal dispatch reached 73.37 MT, marking a 4.35% increase compared to the 70.31 MT dispatched during September 2023. The cumulative coal dispatch up to September 2024 now stands at 487.87 MT (provisional), reflecting a 5.54% growth from the 462.27 MT dispatched during the same period last fiscal year.

This uptick in coal production and dispatch has resulted in a comfortable coal stock position across the country. As of September 29, 2024, total coal stock at Domestic Coal Block (DCB) recorded 33.46 MT, a 51.07% increase compared to the 22.15 MT stock level on the same date in 2023.
