CM Mohan Majhi Accelerates Urban Development Initiatives in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday at Lok Seva Bhawan to review and expedite the Housing and Urban Development Department’s plans aimed at modernizing facilities for urban residents. In the meeting, CM Majhi emphasized the need to prioritize qualified Odisha residents in the selection process for various beneficiary schemes and employment opportunities, ensuring that the benefits of development reach the local populace.

During the review, CM Majhi highlighted the importance of developing peripheral urban areas to enhance infrastructure and provide better facilities for economically disadvantaged residents. He stressed that such development would enable these individuals to access essential services and earn a sustainable livelihood while contributing to the city’s economy.

The meeting also addressed the pressing issue of the Daya West Canal in Bhubaneswar. The Chief Minister called for an advanced restoration and beautification plan for the 34 km canal, of which 16 km lies within the city. He underscored the urgent need for the comprehensive development of Bhubaneswar and its surrounding areas to improve the overall quality of life for its residents.

Focusing on cleanliness and waste management, CM Majhi advocated for the implementation of a bio-mining system in all state cities. He directed officials to make Bhubaneswar a model city in terms of cleanliness and effective waste management practices.

The Housing and Urban Development Department presented a detailed 100-day action plan, which included progress updates on key projects such as the metro rail initiative, the Jaga Mission for slum redevelopment, enhancements to the CRUT transport system, and various city beautification efforts. These projects are expected to significantly improve urban infrastructure and public services, thereby enhancing the living standards of the city’s residents.

The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Departmental Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Chief Administrative Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Additional Chief Administrative Secretary to the CM Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Departmental Principal Secretary Usha Padhi, and Managing Director of CRUT Arun Bothra, among others.
