CM Majhi Unveils New Road Corridor, Launches Flyover and Public Infrastructure Projects in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a push to strengthen urban mobility and support Bhubaneswar’s expanding infrastructure needs, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday inaugurated the Infocity–Ekamra Kanan Road and launched new projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving public amenities in the capital city.

During the programme, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan Road and construction of a flyover along the corridor, which has emerged as one of the busiest traffic routes in Bhubaneswar.

The newly inaugurated Infocity–Ekamra Kanan Road is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the northern part of the city. Developed after a major encroachment removal exercise, the road links Salia Sahi Square through Hatiasuni to Infocity and creates an alternative urban transport corridor.

Government officials said the project was accelerated through a coordinated eviction and demolition drive involving multiple agencies, leading to the recovery of nearly 800 metres of government land in the Salia Sahi area.

With a width of 60 metres (approximately 200 feet), the corridor integrates with adjoining stretches to create a seamless 13-kilometre parallel road network designed to reduce dependence on the existing Bhubaneswar–Cuttack National Highway-16.

The parallel road is expected to offer relief to commuters travelling through the Jayadev Vihar–Patia–KIIT Square belt, a rapidly developing urban zone that houses residential townships, corporate establishments, hospitality units, educational institutions and major public attractions.

Officials noted that increasing traffic volumes and peak-hour congestion have made infrastructure upgrades necessary on the existing Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan route. The proposed flyover and road modernisation project are expected to improve traffic movement and strengthen future transport capacity.

Apart from transport infrastructure, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for ‘Janasraya’, a large public rest facility planned at Unit-II.

According to officials, the facility will be developed as a 20-storey building over three acres and is expected to accommodate nearly 2,500 people at a time.

The projects are part of the state government’s broader strategy to build modern urban infrastructure and prepare Bhubaneswar for long-term growth and rising mobility demands.
