Bhubaneswar: The vibrant celebrations of Karama Purba Sandhya, organised by the Oraon Cultural Society in Chandrashekharpur, turned into a momentous occasion on Friday with the participation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Chief Minister hailed Karama Puja as a festival that embodies unity, respect for labour, and harmony with nature.
Announcing key measures for the community, Majhi declared that the government would provide permanent land for the Oraon Cultural Society and extend incentive funds for the promotion of Oraon cultural heritage.
Stressing that 23% of Odisha’s population belongs to tribal communities, the Chief Minister said the state’s development is closely linked with the economic, social, and political upliftment of its tribes. He outlined initiatives such as the construction of tribal culture houses, promotion of tribal scripts, and residential education facilities for over five lakh tribal students, nearly 60% of whom are girls.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the launch of 15 Ekalavya Model Schools, expanded scholarship and vocational training schemes, and the Shahid Madho Singh Hath Kharcha Yojana, which provides ₹5,000 to three lakh tribal children to reduce dropouts and encourage higher education.
The programme also saw the presence of Union Minister Jual Oram, SC & ST Welfare Minister Nityanand Gond, and other dignitaries. The event underscored both the rich cultural legacy of the Oraon community and the government’s commitment to preserving tribal traditions while advancing their welfare.
