New Delhi: In a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity, the Civil Aviation Ministry launched a Boeing-737 flight on the Kolkata-Hindon-Goa route today. The project was inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu at Hindon Airport, Ghaziabad, highlighting exemplary civilian-military coordination in India’s aviation sector.
Hindon Airport, strategically located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, plays a dual-use role, integrating military and civilian operations. With its advanced infrastructure and capacity to handle diverse air traffic, the airport is set to become a crucial hub for decongesting Delhi NCR’s airspace while expanding access to key destinations.
The launch of this new flight falls under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at improving regional air connectivity and making air travel affordable and accessible for the common citizen. The Indian Air Force (IAF), beyond its core mission of protecting national airspace, has been actively supporting nation-building efforts, including initiatives like UDAN, which bridge connectivity gaps across India.
The introduction of regular flights from Hindon is expected to boost regional tourism, economic development, and accessibility, particularly for travelers commuting between Eastern, Northern, and Western India. The project underscores the growing synergy between military and civilian aviation, ensuring efficient utilization of national air infrastructure while fostering sustainable air travel expansion.
