India’s Moon Mission achieved a remarkable feat with the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the lunar surface this Wednesday evening. This historic achievement establishes India as the first nation to accomplish a soft landing on the moon’s South Pole.
Just a few days ago, on August 20, Russia’s spacecraft Luna experienced an unfortunate crash landing on the moon’s South Pole, resulting in mission failure.
India now joins an elite group of countries, including the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China, that have successfully completed soft landings on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan-3 comprises an indigenous Lander module (LM), Propulsion module (PM), and a Rover, all aimed at developing and showcasing new technologies crucial for interplanetary missions.
The Lander possesses the capability to gently land at a designated lunar site and deploy the Rover, which will conduct in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during its mobility phase. This mission marks a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey.
