CBI Hosts Investiture Ceremony, 39 Officers Honored with President’s Police Medal and Indian Police Medal

Ghaziabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) held an Investiture Ceremony today at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The event saw Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, presenting the President’s Police Medal (PPM) for Distinguished Service and the Indian Police Medal (IPM) for Meritorious Service to 39 CBI officers and officials.

In his address, Meghwal congratulated the medal recipients and their families, acknowledging their exceptional service to the nation. He expressed that the recognition serves as an inspiration for all service officials to excel in their duties. Highlighting CBI’s vital role, he noted that the agency is highly respected in society for its exemplary investigative work, which is evidenced by its high conviction rates.

Meghwal emphasized CBI’s reputation as India’s premier investigative agency, underlined by frequent demands for its involvement in complex and sensitive cases by various stakeholders.

Meghwal also discussed the newly implemented Criminal Laws, which came into effect on July 1, 2024. He asserted that these laws would significantly enhance the ease of living for citizens by expediting justice delivery and reducing litigation time. This, he stated, would allow energies to be directed towards societal development, contributing to the nation’s progress.

Referring to India’s rapid economic ascent, from the 11th to the 5th largest economy globally, Meghwal highlighted that reforms in the judicial process would further support India’s goal of becoming the 3rd largest economy in the coming years.

Meghwal echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, predicting that the 21st century would be dominated by Asia, led by India. He drew comparisons to the 19th and 20th centuries, marked by European and American leadership, respectively. Citing Swami Vivekananda’s forecast, he emphasized India’s growing influence due to its democratic values, economic and technological progress, strong family systems, global humanitarian efforts, and leadership in fields such as Yoga, Ayurveda, and space exploration.

In his welcome address, Praveen Sood, Director of CBI, praised the medal recipients for their professional dedication, resilience, and fortitude, which have elevated the agency’s esteem. He also extended congratulations to their families. Sood highlighted the collaborative efforts between the CBI and the Ministry of Law & Justice in prioritizing efficient prosecution alongside investigation.

He noted that CBI’s role has evolved over time, from primarily handling anti-corruption cases to addressing special economic crimes, cybercrimes, and bank frauds. Sood confirmed that CBI is actively implementing the new criminal laws and is prepared to assist states and other stakeholders in this transition.
